[how we help]

We work closely with all our young clients to develop an individual support plan that will help them achieve their goals. Here are a few guidelines about how to get the best results from our service.

Addiction or dependency?

Many people use and understand the word 'addiction' when referring to problem drinking, drug using or gambling, so we've used the term on our website. But at NORCAS, we often use the terms 'dependency' or 'addictive behaviour' instead because they're preferred by the World Health Organisation, and because they're less judgemental too.

Assessing your needs

To help you, we'll need some basic information about your circumstances. This may include a discussion about substance related issues and anything else that you feel affects your life at that time. Your initial meeting is also an opportunity for both you and your NORCAS worker to get to know each other and talk about the ways we may be able to support you.

You can expect us to:

  • Be non-judgemental, professional and honest
  • Provide an assessment of your needs
  • Give you full information about the support you can get
  • Develop an individual care plan with you
  • Respect your privacy, dignity and confidentiality.

We expect you to:

  • Treat NORCAS staff with honesty and respect
  • Follow the care plan you agree and let us know if it needs changing
  • Attend your appointments or let us know if you can't.

Confidentiality

We offer a confidential service to all young people, which means that we need your permission to share relevant information with anyone else. In extreme circumstances we may need to break confidentiality, but if this happens we'll let you know. We'll explain all about confidentiality to you at your first appointment.
